Curriculum

Across all our learning spaces, educators use "Belonging, Being and Becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia"  to guide their curriculums. The framework includes the five learning outcomes educators work towards to provide a holistic curriculum for all children. These outcomes are:

  • Outcome 1: Children have a strong sense of identity

  • Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world

  • Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing

  • Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners

  • Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators

Educators value the important input from children and families and use it to shape their experiences, routines and environments.  In our youngest spaces, the child’s routine is followed to ensure consistency with home. However, we use our caregiving moments to bond with our infants. We take our time and encourage our infants to be active participants in the process during these moments. We use verbal and non-verbal cues to lead their day and follow their natural rhythm rather than follow a ‘clockwork routine’.

In the older learning spaces, children engage with their educators, peers and the environment to develop their emerging learning dispositions and are introduced to project work. Their developing communication, social and emotional skills are nurtured through positive, caring interactions with educators.

All children are active citizens in our local community through regular local walks to the sports ovals, natural play spaces and local parks and shops.

Preschool

Our Preschool room has a qualified and experienced Preschool teacher providing an exciting and educational curriculum such as literacy, science, technology, engineering, maths (STEM), art and physical health.  In addition, educators support social and emotional wellbeing through play-based learning. The children will work in small and large groups when engaging in project work on topics that interest them.

All preschool-aged children can transition to kindergarten experiences, including visits to Gold Creek Primary School library and surrounding school environments, including the playground and ovals. Nicholls Early Childhood Centre has an arrangement with Gold Creek Preschool for morning drop off and return to NECC in the afternoon.
