Nicholls Early Childhood Centre exercises a strong commitment to child safety

Through the following statements

  • We provide a safe and supportive environment for all children.
  • We prioritise the safety and wellbeing of every child by implementing the 10 Child Safe Standards.
  • We have zero tolerance of child abuse, and all allegations and safety concerns will be treated very seriously and consistently with our robust policies and procedures.
  • We are committed to preventing abuse, identifying risks early, and implementing risk reduction strategies.
  • We exercise legal, ethical and moral obligations in contacting and reporting safety concerns to authorities about children’s safety.
  • We are committed to empowering children to participate in decisions that affect them, to speak up and share any concerns they may have.
  • We are committed to making sure children know who to approach if they feel unsafe or have any child safety concerns and value their perspectives.
  • We educate children about personal safety in age-appropriate ways.

  • We provide regular child protection training and refresher courses for all staff.
  • We provide regular training on the Child Safe Standards for all staff.
  • We implement robust recruitment processes, including checks such as Working with Vulnerable People registrations and thorough reference checks.
  • We ensure the physical environment is safe through features such as secure access, visitor’s identity checks, regular safety checks, safe design and placement of equipment, hygiene and cleanliness, safe sleep practices, risk management plans and a variety of indoor and outdoor settings that promote effective supervision.
  • We regularly review and update child safety policies with input from children, families, and staff.
